2010 AMA Hall of Fame Weekend is Rich with
History
LAS VEGAS, NV – November
18, 2010 – The American Motorcyclist Association
(AMA) will formally congratulate and induct the
next group of superior achievers, influencers,
and contributors within the motorcycle industry
this weekend in Las Vegas at the Red Rock
Resort, Hotel, and Casino. Already announced,
the 2010 AMA Hall of Fame inductees will be
Mitch Payton, founder of Pro Circuit, the late
Eyvind Boyesen, founder of Boyesen, and John and
Rita Gregory, founders of JT Racing.
The Hall of Fame Banquet is surrounded by
multiple events taking place in Las Vegas this
weekend that celebrates the motorcycle industry.
Bound by common threads
of humble beginnings, each inductee’s commitment
to excellence served as the driving force for
their successes today.
For Payton, it was an injury at 18 that
lead to the closing of a racing career and the
opening of a business career when he purchased a
local Husqvarna shop.
After
building a stellar reputation as a tuner, Payton
was invited to run the 125 Supercross and
motocross team.
It was an endeavor that would consume him
for the next two decades.
Like Payton, Boyesen had
also carved out a legendary name in motorcycle
racing.
Also recognized for his superior skills
in tuning, Boyesen who began his operations in
1972, was widely regarded as a two-stroke engine
specialist.
Since the company’s inception, it has
expanded its lines to include water pump
designs, enhanced accelerated pump operation and
40 other patents for the motorcycle aftermarket
industry.
Completing this year’s
inductees is a team
- husband and wife John and Rita Gregory.
Their company, JT Racing, has provided
innovative motocross year for the past two
decades.
Equally as involved as a team sponsor, JT
Racing has to its roster, riders like Roger
DeCoster, Ricky Johnson, and Bob Hannah.
For Rita Gregory, it’s an honor to be a
woman who is recognized within the motorcycle
industry.
Events begin on Friday, November 19, with the
Hall of Fame Banquet.
On Saturday,
2010 AMA Concours d'Elegance will display
restored and classic motorcycles.
Also on Saturday is the Hart & Huntington
Las Vegas Supercross Privateer Challenge at the
Boulder City Motocross Facility (BCMX).
Featured on MTV and Fuel TV, the
supercross race features a $10,000 Pro Purse
with a fanfest featuring autograph sessions with
Ivan Tedesco, Wil Hahn and Miss Supercross Casey
Edmondson.
Honored to be holding a national event on
the same weekend as the AMA Hall of Fame
induction ceremonies, BCMX General Manager,
Bryce Davis, said, “I congratulate all of the
Hall of Fame inductees.
Together,
these leaders have all brought innovation to our
sport and industry.
For Mr.
Boyesen, he will be missed by all.
He’s left a legendary imprint on our
industry and he’ll forever be honored for his
work.”
On Sunday, November 21, a new wave of future
Hall of Famers will receive honors for their
achievements in AMA Racing through the 2010
year.
Amateur champions in all classes will be
recognized for their title winning efforts.
While national amateur racers are
receiving their awards, BCMX will be hosting the
Boulder City MX Las Vegas Supercross: Amateur
Shootout race at its facility.
Amateur racers will have the opportunity
to race on a supercross track that will pose
more technical challenges than typical tracks.
In all, this weekend is a full feature of the
history of motorcycle racing.
From the industry
pioneers and innovators to the amateur stars of
today, AMA Racing is the grounds for legends in
the making.
